Welcome to the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy
The emergence of the universe; the origin and evolution
of the earth and of life; the age determination of
rocks; the weather forecast; the social, economic and ecological
changes in a globalised world - these and other
topics are dealt with by the Faculty of Earth Sciences,
Geography and Astronomy. The names of the disciplines
represented here - Astronomy, Geography, Meteorology and Geophysics, Mineralogy and Crystallography, Palaeontology, Geodynamics and Sedimentology, Lithospheric research, Enviromental Geosciences - characterise the Faculty's scientific programme.
The disciplines at the faculty (with currently 23 chairs and about
2,000 students) represented here have unique characteristics:
they are not to be found at any other Austrian university as far as their
broad range of topics, scientific quality and qualification of
personnel is concerned
