[CALL] Sofja Kovalevskaja Award

31.07.2018

Deadline: 31 Jul 2018

For excellent junior researchers developing their own working group in Germany over a five-year period.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is accepting applications for the coveted Sofja Kovalevskaja Award until 31 July 2018. This award offers young researchers unique conditions: Up to €1.65 million in funding will be made available to each award winner, enabling them to develop their own working groups at a research institute of their choice in Germany over a five-year period. During this time these junior researchers can conduct their own research projects there, independently and free from administrative constraints, and in the process put innovative ideas into practice.

With this award, the Humboldt Foundation singles out outstanding research talents and innovative research methods. The award is one of the best-endowed science awards in Germany. Applications may be submitted by distinguished junior scientists and scholars from abroad in any discipline. Applicants must have completed their doctorate less than six years ago.

The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award gets talented, internationally sought-after researchers involved in collaborations with German researchers and academics as early in their career as possible. In this way, lasting scientific and academic networks are established that will benefit not only the respective research facilities and locations but also up-and-coming researchers and scholars in Germany. The award is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
