Marietta Blau-Grant for Sarah Haghjoo

27.07.2020

Sarah Haghjo from the Department of Mineralogy and Crystallography has been awarded a 12-month grant to visit the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) in Canada and working on her PhD thesis entitled ‘CFA-derived zeolite for removal of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) from contaminated media’.

Sarah Haghjoo, PhD student of Christian L. Lengauer at the Department of Mineralogy and Crystallography, has planned to start her research stay at the UNBC in October. She will mainly work with Hossein Kazemian primarily to test adsorption efficiencies of coal fly ash (CFA) derived zeolites from her ongoing laboratory research.

The main objective of her PhD project is to develop efficient; ecofriendly and inexpensive zeolite-type adsorbents for removal of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as herbicides, pesticides like glyphosate from contaminated aqueous media.

  • The Marietta Blau Grant of the oead offers financial support for six- to twelve-month study periods abroad for doctoral or PhD students of Austrian universities. It serves to optimise their dissertations. Junior researchers are the main target group. Further Information: oead
