Special Focus Facilities

Large-scale facilities are combined in three "Special Focus Facilities" (SFFs) at the Faculty. Pooling these expensive large-scale facilities in the SFFs increases their visibility and avoids duplicate purchases within and outside the faculty. Like the entire infrastructure, these large-scale facilities are available to all faculty members. Cooperation partners and other persons outside the faculty may also use the SFFs. Please send your enquiries to the responsible expert at the relevant Special Focus Facility.

Please refer to the relevant contact person, if you require further information or if you want to use a device. For general questions regarding the faculty’s infrastructure, please refer to the Vice Dean for infrastructure.

  • Electron probe microanalytics
This SFF comprises electron microscopes, ion beam applications as well as electron probe microanalysis to analyse geomaterials.
For further information contact: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rainer Abart
  • Geochronology / isotope geochemistry
This SFF comprises two thermionic mass spectrometers and the associated clean room infrastructure. It enables the determination of age and the study of geological processes.
For further information contact: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Köberl
  • X-ray diffraction analytics
This SSF allows for the solids analysis of geomaterials and includes a multitude of X-ray diffractometers.
For further information contact: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ronald Miletich-Pawliczek
