Spatio-temporal analysis of slope deformations to establish an effective long-term monitoring of a slow-moving landslide

Abstrakt

Slow-moving landslides are characterized by complex kinematics that differ on a
spatial and temporal scale. Moreover, their deformation rates make short-term
approaches ineffective, resulting in challenges in understanding landslide behavior and
its relation to triggering factors. This study presents the combined application of
landslide monitoring and hydro-meteorological measures conducted at the Brandstatt
landslide (Lower Austria, Austria). A spatio-temporal analysis of deep and surface
evidences is presented in order to establish an effective approach to monitoring the
evolution of slow movements. The results are then interpreted in terms of the
landslide´s kinematics to define markers of potential deformation trends. In order to
gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of landslide activity, the presented time
series of measures will be extended. The long-term series will provide practical
solutions to support local authorities in hazard management.
