Red Giants (RGB and AGB) and Supergiants (RSG) are prime targets for optical interferometric imaging due to their large sizes and complex surfaces and envelopes. Such images can provide deep insights into the processes lying behind the complexity. However, optical interferometers don't provide direct images but these have to be reconstructed from the usually sparesly sampled Fourier plane data like visibilities and closure phases. Several image reconstruction algorithms are publicly available and comparing the results of different algorithms is the standard way of assessing the quality of reconstructed images. In this poster we apply the tools SQUEEZE, MiRa and IrBis to synthetic observations and MATISSE data of the well known Carbon star R Scl. While SQEEZE is a standalone software, MiRa can be used in the OImaging tool of the Jean-Marie Mariotti Center and IrBis is available via the MATISSE data reduction software packages. All three tools use different mathematical methods to reconstruct the image from the interferometric data and provide different regularization functions. The synthetic data are self generated and inspired by 1D and 3D model atmospheres. The R Scl data come from a recent imaging campaign for this star (Drevon et al., 2022, A&A). This comparison will show the advantages and disadvantages of the different tools regarding imaging of the extended and clumpy atmospheres of cool (super)giants.
