- Abstract
Elderly patients (≥ 65 years) suffering cardiovascular diseases clearly benefit from exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation despite comorbidities and should not be excluded because of their old age. Especially the very old patients (≥ 75 years) seem to benefit from a prolonged rehabilitation period, and therefore a combination of a short phase II and a longer phase III program may stabilize the effects. The complexity of cardiovascular diseases with a diverse manifestation of comorbidities in these patients and the age related decreases of senses and perception require an adapted assessment of diagnostics, methodological translation and pedagogical intervention.
