Particle Acceleration in Galactic Winds

- Abstract
Galactic winds are driven by pressure gradients of the thermal gas, the energetic particles and the magnetic waves. In the case of time-dependent inner boundary conditions (e.g. super bubbles, star burst regions) shock waves are generated within the wind thereby also re-accelerating the cosmic rays and modifying the flow structure. The physical model is described by a set of non-linear partial differential equations which is solved in flux-tube geometry by an implicit adaptive numerical scheme allowing an accurate treatment of moving discontinuities inside the flow. Numerical features of the method as well as properties of the physical solutions will be discussed.
