Abstract

We present initial results on a very young and highly embedded region of NGC 2264. The 24 μm sources detected are found to be mostly protostellar and spatially located in linear patterns that coincide with dense filaments of molecular material. Furthermore, their quasi-regular separations is consistent with the value for the Jeans length in the region, indicating that the filaments have thernally fragmented and we are observing the primordial substructure of the cluster.
