Abstract

ENESUS is a transdisciplinary research project whose overall aim is to gain a better under-standing of the conditions for socio-ecological transformations. In particular, it focuses on the inhibiting and promoting role of urban biosphere reserves, also withregard to a multi-level regional governance system. Essential elements of such a transformation are trans-formative aims, experimental processes and transdisciplinary networks. They are adressed through exploring, analysing and comparing Biosphere Reserves, their networks and grass-roots initiativesof regional transformation.
