Abstract

The mixed salts of di-L-ornithinium(2+) chloride nitrate sulfate (I), di-L-ornithinium(2+) bromide nitrate sulfate (II), di-L-ornithinum(2+) dichloride sulfate (III), and di-L-ornithinum(2+) dibromide sulfate (IV) have been obtained from aqueous solutions. Whereas structure and vibrational spectra of the crystal (I) were known previously, the crystal and molecular structures of (III, IV) have been determined. All crystals have similar structures (space groups C2), with all anions located on twofold axes. The L-ornithinum(2+) cations form O–H...O hydrogen bonds with sulfate anions. Additional N–H···Cl/Br and N–H···O hydrogen bonds further stabilize the structures. All crystals are characterized by ATR FTIR and Raman spectra. The ATR IR spectrum of (I) differs from previously published IR spectrum. Powder SHG tests confirmed nonlinear optical activity of the crystals.
