Abstract

The new compds. K2Cu2(SeO3)3 and K2Cu3(SeO3)4 were synthesized in the course of low-hydrothermal expts. on natrochalcite-type selenate representatives. The crystal structures were detd. by direct methods from single-crystal x-ray diffraction data. K2Cu2(SeO3)3: orthorhombic, space group Cmcm, Z = 4, a = 5.312(1), b = 9.858(3), c = 17.595(5) Å, V = 921.4(4) Å3, rho-c = 4.226 g/cm3, µ(MoKalpha) = 174 cm-1, 1246 obsd. reflections with Fo > 4sigma(Fo), 53 refined parameters, R1 = 0.023, wR2 = 0.046 (all data). K2Cu3(SeO3)4: triclinic, space group P.hivin.1, Z = 1, a = 5.443(1), b = 7.158(2), c = 8.369(3) Å, α = 95.26(2)°, β = 108.58(2)°, γ = 92.17(2)°, V = 307.0(2) Å3, rho-c = 4.201 g/cm3, µ(MoKalpha) = 177 cm-1, 2615 obsd. reflections with Fo > 4sigma(Fo), 98 refined parameters, R1 = 0.035, wR2 = 0.089 (all data). Both compds. contain sheets built from edge- or corner-sharing CuOn polyhedra (n = 5,6) and trigonal pyramidal selenite groups. These units are linked via the K atoms. In K2Cu2(SeO3)3 1 of the 2 selenite groups is strongly disordered.
