Abstract

Numerical simulations of noisy time series in order to investigate the influence of sampling properties and noise on the standard errors of frequencies, amplitudes and phases for multi-periodic light curves are presented. The motivation was to compare ground-based observations to expected Eddington photometry. Whereas even an extensive ground-based observational campaign produces a data quality that permits reliable phase determination and mode identification only for the most dominant pulsation components, the standard error of the phase is expected to decrease by a factor of ˜ 100 for Eddington observations, which allows mode identification for all frequencies that have been resolved for d Scuti stars so far.
