Abstract

Hofrat Dr. Franz Lex (* 1875; † 1944). His contribution to earth science research of Carinthia.
The geographer, historian mineralogist, and geologist Franz Lex studied the fields of natural
sciences and philosophy at the university of Vienna and completed his studies with the degree
PhD (doctor of philosophy) in 1900. In the next few years (1900 to 1907) he worked at the
grammar schools in Brno (Czech Republic) and Celje (Slovenia). From 1907 up to his retire-
ment (1935) he taught at the Realschule in Klagenfurt. In this period he published numerous
articles in regional and international periodicals, especially scientific papers about topics
concerning Carinthia.
