Abstract

In times of pressing social challenges such as climate change, the biodiversity crisis, digitalisation and increasing socio-economic inequalities, cities are seen as having a special role to play in developing and implementing innovative solutions. On the one hand, adaptation solutions are required, for example to counter the effects of extreme weather events and other sudden crises. On the other hand, it is about measures that can break up entrenched technical and planning structures and release capacities for more sustainable and fairer development paths.
