The Stanford Chair is a 6-month visiting professorship at Stanford University. It is based on a gift from the Republic of Austria to the United States.

The call for applications is for the years 2028, 2029 and 2030 (January-June). A total of three candidates will be chosen in this selection process. Academics with a habilitation or comparable qualification who are employed by an Austrian public university as defined in the Universitätsgesetz 2002 (with the exception of retired Univ.-Prof. / Univ.-Prof. i.R.) and who are working in a subject taught at Stanford University are eligible to apply.

The selection process itself is administered by the University of Vienna. The selection committee is chaired by Vice-Rector Manuela Baccarini and comprises other vice-rectors from Austrian universities. The selection procedure includes an international peer review process. The final decision will be made by Stanford University (expected in June 2026).
