Photo Competition "Snapshots of Exploration" 2024

Until the end of March, all students of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy were invited to submit their best photos related to their study programme - now it's the jury's turn! In addition to the three main prizes (1st place 300 euros, 2nd place 200 euros, 3rd place 100 euros), special prizes on the topic of "Artificial Intelligence" will also be awarded this year. We can't wait to see which of the more than 100 impressive photos submitted will make it into the best "Snapshots of Exploration"...

The first place of our photo competition 2024 goes to Lukas Ackermann, the second to Jonathan Schmidt and the third to Mohammad Goudarzi; while a second third place (Special Award) goes to Manuel Andreas Staggl. Mauritius Klemt receives the Special Award "Artificial Intelligence" In the category 4 to 10, the jury did not rank the best snapshots - they were too close together. Many thanks for more than 100 impressive "snapshots" submitted!
Great or exhausting excursions, long laboratory or coding days, your first day teaching internship or the most beautiful night sky: In the third FGGA photo competition, all bachelors', masters' and doctoral students at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy were again invited to submit their best "Snapshots of Exploration" of their studies between 1st and 31st of March 2024. This year, for the first time, participants of the university courses "Risk Prevention and Disaster Management (OeRISK)" and "Cooperative Urban and Regional Development" as well as the associated certificate courses at the Postgraduate Centre of the University of Vienna were also warmly invited to submit photos.
Many thanks for the numerous submissions - now it's the jury's turn to choose the best "Snapshots of Exploration" from the more than 100 photos submitted from all areas of study!
In addition to the three main prices, special awards on the topic of "Artificial" are granted this year for photos whereby these are submitted in a special category in which the use of artificial intelligence is also permitted.
The following prices will be given to the winners of the competition:
- 1st price: 300 Euro
- 2nd price: 200 Euro
- 3rd price: 100 Euro
- 4th to 10th: small UNIVIE present and printed posters
- Special Award "Artificial Intelligence": 100 euros

Submission deadline over!
Each student was allowed to submit a maximum of two photos until 31 March 2024; now it's the jury's turn! The winners will be announced in May; the award ceremony will take place at the Talks & BBQ event on 13 June at the Observatory of the University of Vienna.
